Abbey of Santa Maria di Pero - Monastier

Via Monastero Monastier di Treviso

The monastery was built along the Meolo River, formerly known as "Pero," on the opposite bank of the commercial warehouses that had existed since 880. This was because the waterway flowed near the salt flats of the Venetian Lagoon, and the proximity of the monastery to the Via Claudia Augusta facilitated prosperous trade towards the Alps.
