It stands in the heart of the city, behind Piazza dei Signori.
The foundation of this temple according to historian Carlo Agnoletti "easily dates back to the Lombard era." We do not exclude the possibility that the church originated between the 8th century when Treviso was still a Lombard duchy or in the later 9th or 10th centuries, and it was in those centuries that the cult of the Benedictine pontiff Gregory the Great ( Gregory 1st 590 - 604 AD) to whom the church is dedicated.
