Observing the Temple from the outside, one can distinguish three architectural elements, one inserted into the other, as if they were harmonious parts of an ideal succession: the colonnade, reminiscent of the Parthenon in Athens; the central body, similar to the Pantheon in Rome; the apse of the high altar, raised six steps above the other two elements, signifying the Christian cathedral.
